One of my favorite activities is to paint at Wine and Design. I treated myself on 5/25/2019 (wedding anniversary) by taking a class. It was so relaxing and gratifying to be instructed on how to create such a piece of art. My "masterpiece" is pictured below and the experience inspired this poem:
The Painting
I find my seat
at the canvas, excited to take part,
The
instructor is beginning to speak; I know within my heart,
That this
time is special, to create a painting is grand,
As I gently
place the largest brush into my right hand,
Gracefully
swirling the gray paint upon what once was entirely white,
I am in a
peaceful calm, this moment is pure delight,
With the background
completely filled, it is time to paint the moon,
Stipple, stipple…
texturing the craters, and very soon,
Painting a
black tree trunk with branches that are long and thin,
If it weren’t
for the instructor, I wouldn’t know where to begin,
Soft rock music
is playing and creativity is flowing like the song,
It is an
individual work of art. There really is
no right or wrong.
The roots of
the tree are creeping down over a cylindrical mound of stone,
And everyone’s
looks a little different- to each his very own,
We paint a
body of water in the foreground of the tree,
And a
shoreline of large rounded rocks, just above the sea,
Highlights
of grays and white gives the appearance of moonlight reflection,
With plenty
of guidance from the instructor, our paintings are perfection,
At this
point, we have only used white, black and gray, you see,
But a deep
purple is now introduced for the leaves of the tall black tree,
Purple and
white stippled leaves against the dark night sky,
It gives the
necessary “pop” of color that makes me want to sigh,
Ahhhh! Now that is the finishing touch,
It’s really
nice. I like it so much,
But then I
ask the instructor if I can incorporate an angel into mine,
She willingly
pencils it in for me…and it looks so divine.
Sitting on
the stones, beneath the tree,
A heavenly angel
there always to remind me,
Of you!
Of you!
