Spring Surprise
What is this madness on the first day of spring?
I should be sunning on a warm porch swing,
But when I awoke today and flung open the curtain,
It seemed more like winter, that is for certain,
It was snowing like crazy: huge flakes of white,
I’ve never had such a beautiful fright,
But I was disappointed,
because as you know,
The daffodils and other blossoms are hampered by snow,
There was a chill in the air that was not a March wind,
It was blustery; it was wet:
a snow and rain blend,
The ground hog was right, this time, I guess,
Six more weeks of winter, not my favorite, I confess,
Except for the pollen, spring is so much better,
No coat required, maybe a light cardigan sweater,
So welcome to spring, hurry up and get here,
A surprise snow in March is a killjoy to spring cheer,
I’ll take the newness of a fresh spring day,
And a light breeze that carries all my troubles away.
I’ll take the songbirds chirping at dawn,
And the crop of spring flowers, so winter, BE GONE!
